The Southern California Edison (SCE) Charge Ready Home program provides eligible homeowners rebates of up to $4,200 to upgrade their home’s electrical panel when preparing for electric vehicle (EV) charging. What Is the SCE Charge Ready Home Program

The SCE Charge Ready Home program is designed to help homeowners upgrade their electrical infrastructure to safely support electric vehicle charging. Many older homes do not have sufficient electrical capacity to install a Level 2 EV charger, making an electrical panel upgrade or service upgrade necessary.

Through this program, Southern California Edison offers rebates to offset the cost of eligible electrical panel upgrades completed by a licensed electrical contractor.

Electrical Panel Upgrades for EV Charger Installation

Installing a Level 2 EV charger often requires upgrading an existing electrical panel to handle increased electrical load. A licensed electrician will assess your home’s existing panel, service size, and available capacity to determine if an upgrade is required.

SCE requires that all Charge Ready Home rebate work be completed by a licensed electrical contractor. Electrical panel upgrades are not a do-it-yourself project and must comply with SCE requirements, the National Electrical Code (NEC), and local jurisdiction standards.

Not all homes qualify for the SCE Charge Ready Home rebate, and not all electrical upgrades are eligible. Eligibility depends on your existing electrical panel, EV charging needs, and SCE program requirements.
